Compatibility between 32bits and 64bits

Hello all,

We have a 3 systems landscape of SAP R/3 4.6C (DEV,TST,PRD) running on Windows 2003 server 32bits.

We plan to swap PRD server with a windows server 2003 x64.

Do you think we'll have side effects ? For transports for example...

We also have a 3 systems landscape of SAP BW 3.5 on 32 bits.

May us encountered problems, for load between R/3 and BW ?

Thank you in advance...

Regards

    no problems for compatibility.

Obviously, your kernel will be different between your systems, so, it will be impossible to really test out a new 64 bit kernel in a non-PROD system before applying it to your PROD system.

I would preferably install my QAS system as a 64-bit system too. this would enable you to make sure that your kernel is tested out first.

    • SAP R/3 will support multiple CPU cores, no problems.

you won't get charged more SPA license fees for that.

but expect to pay more for other utility such as your backup utility which license fees may be based on processor count.

no issue between 32 and 64 bit, you could even use different operating systems and/or databases.
