Hi,
I currently have an Intel Core2Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz with 2GB RAM.
I am in the process of installing PI7.1 using VMWare on an USB external HDD. Due to performance issues, I plan to upgrade the RAM.
Will total 6GB RAM give me a leap in performance compared to 4GB RAM, especially since
1. the processor is going to remain the same.
2. I am installing this on an external USB HDD; so the USB port speed should not be a limiting factor in performance...can someone comment on this point?
Thanks
Prasad
I don't know what kind of comments you are expecting... you are simply installing PI in a desktop to use it as a "training/sandbox" system i presume... so performance shouldn't be a big issue.
I'll try to avoid using USB storage devices and MAX out the ram and hope for the best.
Regards
Juan

I have successfully completed the post-installation of PI7.1. My findings are as under:
1. I got a new system with an Intel Core2Duo E8400 processor and 4 GB RAM
2. I installed PI on the system HDD (not USB HDD)
3. Currently the system takes about 15 mins to come up (ABAP + Java) but once it is up, performance during interface development is satisfactory
4. About 13+ GB of page files are being used and about 200-300MB RAM memory is free during operation
On the whole, I find this to be good enough for a test system.
Thanks Juan for your response.
Regards,
Prasad
