Hello
What is difference between serial number & equipment number.
Regards,
Naveed ANsari
Equipment => PM Concept
Serial Number => MM Concept
A material can be "serialized" and therefore can be handled in inventory using serial numbers.
Example: 10 units in stock, each one is a different SN (Serial Number)
An equipment does not need to be defined as serial number, but it is useful for managing the equipment in inventory.
A serial number does not need to be an equipment.
There is an interesting functionality in SAP which is called equipment / serial number sincronization.
For example: Material A has serial number B123 is sincronized to equipment B123.
You can work in PM/SM with equipment B123.
If you move the serial number B123 for material A in MM, then the stock view of the equipment (EQBS table) is automatically updated with the current stock situation of the serial number.
This has the benefit of allowing the inventory management of the PM/SM equipment (without needing to mount equipment on dummy functional locations).
Hope it helps.
