DMS and GOS documents in the one repository.

Hi,

We currently use MaxDB Content Server(7.9) for DMS storage and SAP Office documents such as Generic Object Services are stored in the SAP DB.

Due to the growing size we’d like to store the SAP Office documents in a Contents server as well.

What we are uncertain about and can’t find a clear answer to is:

Should these be stored in the same repository as the DMS documents

or

is it best to use another server and repository?

Windows and ECC6 environment.

.Thanks

Hi Paul,

regarding your question I would say that technical it should be possible to use one repository for DMS and GOS attachments. But I would recommend to create maybe different storage categories for the repository to make file management on the content server easier for your admins.

From DMS point of view I would find it easier to have different repositories to avoid maybe confusion and issue when doing a migration in the future.

Best regards,

Christoph

Hi Christoph,

Thanks for the feedback.

Note 1634908 is clear on how to change the storage location and the quick and simple solution is to use the existing and just make the change in SKPR08 as per the note. But I'm still struggling to find any recommendations to determine the best long term solution from the physical storage side.

It does make sense (to me) to separate them but just how separate should they be?
If I was to use a different Repository (CSADMIN) and Storage category.

Do I use the existing MaxDB database eg: SID = SDD or create a new DB eg: SID = SDB on the current server or should everything be on a difference server/ MaxDB installation?

Thanks again for your help and advice.
