DB connect to SQL server

Hello everyone,

We are trying connect our SAP BW system (Oracle) to an external database (MSSQL server 2000). Is there any dependency that the SAP BW application server should be Microsoft Windows for us to install the MSSQL client? Will DB connect work for us if our AS is UNIX server?

Any help on this is really appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Aashish

If you want to connect DB to extract data, first you must install the client of you source DB in your BI server, and config the DB-connect in OS by ODBC(MS SQL), and then create a DB-connect source system in BI system.

Thanks Henry,

Henry do you know of any dependencies for extracting data from MS SQL with SAP BW server as HP-UNIX . I got this from a friend.

MSSQL server has the dependency that one of the SAP BW Application Server should be Microsoft Windows. MSSQL client which has to be installed on the SAP BW Application Server is available only for windows OS.

and what do you mean exactly when you say 'config the DB-connect in OS by ODBC (MS SQL), I mean can you help me with the exact steps that need to be done?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Aashish

Hi,

I did what you said, but the error while I´m trying to extract data from a Business One DB still happen.

The configuration of ODBC creating a source system with the name of the SBO server, the test was successful.

Any clue?

Dear Aashish,

you wrote 'Got it ...' ... so can you tell us, did you manage to connect from a SAP BW Unix AS to MSSQL via DB connect? If yes, can you provide the steps that you followed?

Hi,

You should not have a problem. We have carried out extracts using DB Connect from MS SQL and DB2 systems into the same BI system.

Let me know if you need any further information

Thanks Niten for your response. A friend of mine mentioned the following dependency with extracting data from SQL.

MSSQL server has the dependency that one of the SAP BW Application Server should be Microsoft Windows. MSSQL client which has to be installed on the SAP BW Application Server is available only for windows OS.

What DB and Application server is your BI system on? Which patch file did you use (LIB_DBSL.SAR) as I think there is nothing on marketplace for extraction from MS SQL into BW system on Oracle and HP-Unix systems (Our system is running on this).

Thanks & Regards,
