Hello,
I created a report with a histogram that shows values over a time period. The values can change drastically from month to month (from 161 to 31 for example). In those cases, the subcategories get squashed and become hard to read.
Is there a way to manually set the Y axis interval to avoid this kind of problems?

Will have to check in CR 9 but atleast in higher versions user can do this in the Axes tab in the Chart Expert window.
1.Right click on chart,Chart Expert,Axes, uncheck the Auto range check box and decide the Min Max and Number Format as per requirement.
Thanks

Actually, in the newer versions there is an option called "Number of Divisions" in the same 'Axes' tab.
By selecting the 'Manual' radio button user is able to define the number of divisions(and thus the interval).
Say for e.g for a scale of 0 through 1 if I select the Number of divisions count to be 2 then I get an interval of 0.5 between each record(0,0.5,1 etc)
If I select it to be 4 then interval of 0.2 (0,0.2,0.4,0.8,1) and so on....
In your case (say for e.g) if the range is 0 through 100 then the count of 20 is the suitable value.
Thanks !
