Time calculations

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help a new Crystal user with limited experience!

I have a report that is looking at the times users log into our computer system and then log out again. The report output is similar to this:

USER WORKSTATION CODE DATE TIME

Joe PC1 Login 12/3/08 9:00

Joe PC1 Logout 12/3/08 10:00

Joe PC1 Login 12/3/08 10:15

Joe PC1 Logout 12/3/08 12:00

You get the idea!

The report is looking at the logins and logouts of a particular user over the previous month. I have been asked to group the report by day and then provide data showing how long the user has been logged on for each session, so for the above example I would like to have a field next to "10:00" that says 60 (minutes) and next to the "12:00" that says 105. I can do the grouping no problem but just need help with the times.

I know this is probably quite simple but I don't know how to do it! If anyone can assist I'd be grateful.

Many thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

Can you give us a description of what your data looks like? Is there a distinguishing way to determine if a record is logged in and out?

Most people will log in and out more than once per day. Occassionally people may also log in once and leave their machine running all night.

Aside from a date and time stamp, is there any other way to group the data into sessions? This would help because I'm guessing the formula to calculate the sessions may get involved.

Thanks,

Brian
