Make-to-order production

Hello all,

In a plant they produce a customer specific semi-finished which is packaged in different formats.

When a sales order is created for one of the MTO finished goods that will trigger the production of the semi-finished. The lot-size of which is larger than requirements from single order line. Therefore customer must make sure that total requirements from sales order lines matches quantity of semi-finished. The problem is that with normal MTO SAP will create one planned order for the semi-finished for every sales order line. Instead I want single planned order to cover customer requirements.

This shoud be make-to-order production of semi-finished good and the finished goods and want to have forecast on the finished goods.

Somebody solved this before?

Best regards,

Hi Tor,

As I understand: you want your SFG to have separate PldOrd for each SO of FG.

What about individual/collective requirement setting? Cannot you solve your problem via this?

Thanks for your reply.

I want both FG and SFG to be procured after sales order. I would like a forecast on FG level to have RM on hand.

I want MTO strategy but I want to balance the volume of a single SFG batch to several sales order lines.

We will go for strategy 52.

Or a hybrid of 40 and 52 where ATP on sales order goes to stock in stead of to forecast.

Order clerk must juggle requirements types in order to switch between the two.

Use the Strategy Planning with Planning Material :60.

Thanks that is a good suggestion!

(I was starting out with strategy 52.)

I have to see how we can accomodate that. We are using APO Demand Planner for forecasting and the generic solution is based upon statistical forecast based upon historic sales for each finished goods.

APO DP must be updated with the links between sales material and planning material to get things right. I must check this.

We also have to check which components are most critical with respect to forecast based planning to decide which way to go as strategy 60 leaves out the variable components.

- components of the semi-finished or

- the packaging materials.

Hi Tor,

Go far collective requirements in MRP 4 view at header.

If needed, Go for lot size EX , Min lot size, Max lot size and with some rounding value for Semi finished and Packing materials to have better control on inventory.
