Hey People,
I know this questions has been repeated on SDN, but since there was no concrete answer am posting this question again.
I know that in Query Designer we can publish reports to both Portal & Roles, now I have 2 questions:
1. In Query Designer when I choose the option, Publish reports to Portal , I know that an iview will be created.
My question is after we choose the above function, where exactly will the query be published in the Portal? It would be great if someone could also post the path or the directory's in the portal where this report will be saved.
2. In the query designer when I choose the option, Publish reports to Roles, I know queries will be saved to these roles and will be accessible to all the users who are authorized under these roles.
Now my question is, will these queries saved in the roles still be accessible to users from Portal, and if they are accessible how will they execute these reports from Portal?
Thanks & regards
Guru
1. when you publish it will come up with the content directory, you can create a folder and when you publish you can specify where to save the iview and it will be saved in a folder you specified.
2. Basically there will be two role, one created on Portal and anther one on Portal. The role on BI will validate if you have access to the data in the data provider. The role in portal validate if you can see a particular iview or not. Let's assume that I published a report to a role called X and also there is a role called Y on portal. When I login into portal, if I have the role Y assigned to me, I will see the query but if I clicked on the link and accessing the data will be detemined by the role X.
thanks.

Hi Wond,
Thanks for replying so fast.
1. Regarding the first answer, say I specify a folder while publishing the report, how do I goto that folder n Portal once I login. Any T-Codes or steps to reach that folder in Portal would be very helpful.
Also when I publish a query, how will it get saved in that specified folder (I mean will there be any link specified ).
2. From what I understand by your 2nd answer, no matter what in order to view reports from portal, I have to publish the query from BEx - That's the bottom line, there is no other way to execute reports just by logging into portal even if the users have authorizations to both the roles X & Y.
Guru
Guru,
1. You will have to navigate via the content administrator to change anything regarding the iView you published from BeX or assign the folder to the user group.
2. You can directly add the query instead of BEx to portal - this can be done using the URL that is generated and you have to add the same using the BI system options.

Hi Arun,
I was talking to some of my senior colleagues and this is what they told me, please correct me if am wrong:
When we choose the option, publish queries to Portal, what happens is at the background there will be a link saved automatically in the Portal. Now the Portal developers when they create iViews they can basically include the published queries from BEx to whatever folders or directories they would like to.
To better explain the above scenario, this is similar to transports. When we create a transport request, we basically release the request and that is when the Basis people can will move our transports further.
Again, I have no experience BEx to Portal, so kindly let me know if whatever I have said above is correct or wrong.
Thanks,
Guru
maybe i am not responding correctly
but i have question
is portal already set up on ur bi
there is 1 whole piece of BW-Portal integration that needs to be done.
if that piece is not done nothing will happen even if u do publish in bex
if that piece is done
then the person who establishes bex to portal configuration will answer all ur questions.
jst giving u proper direction
I spoke to couple of colleagues and my doubt is cleared.
Thanks for everyone who have spent their valuable time answering my questions.
