By asking What is Batchjob ?

if your meaning is Background Job than........

In sap Background job is used for the executing programmes by system at odd times when sys is not on load.

In PS context, for ex. say for your customer project you want system to run the result analysis KKA2 weekly so, that every week your user need not to run result analysis. for this type of requirement you can use Background job.

Now how it will work.

taking result anlaysis ex. one of the program that runs the result anlysis is SAPKKa17. you can find the prog name from txn status tab as well. Once you got the prog. name than

in SM36 we create job for running that program of SE38. ( programe can be SAP standard or our custom program )

In SM37 we schedule that job at which interval it should run , what type of out put file we should get etc. i.e. we define variants for that Batch job.

So, general Background job is used to run SAP standard / custom program with user define variants. so we can avoid load on system on normal hours & automate work for user.

For the month end FI /Co postings background jobs are used extensively.

Hi Chandra,

I am bit confused with the question you have posted and the replies of that. Do you mean to ask for "BATCH JOBS" which is the techical term or "BATCH MANAGEMENT" which a functional process?

If it is about bach job then above replies answers the question.

If it is about batch management (In PP,MM andSD) then refer the link.

In ur question u have mentioned as Batch Job. So I felt u were refering to Back ground job

Seems to be ur looking at, what is Batch Management. Batch Managemet is nothing do with PS. It is part of MM, PP & SD module.

Batch management is extensively used in Manufacturing, FMCG and Pharama Industry.

The following process chain describes how batch management could look when integrated into the relevant SAP component.

Process Flow

Sales & Distribution

A sales order for a material subject to handling in batches is posted.

You have previously agreed with the customer that the batches of the material he is supplied with must meet certain specifications.

you run a batch determination, as well as a batch availability and usability check. The system determines that the sales order cannot be met with the present stock.

a requirement is transferred to production.

Production

A production order (discrete manufacturing) or a process order (process manufacturing) is created for the material to be handled in batches due to the posted sales order.

A batch number can be assigned for the quantity of material to be produced.

As raw materials with certain specifications are required for the manufacture of this material, batch determination is triggered.

If a sufficient quantity of raw material is available, the selected batches are reserved for the production or process order

Purchasing

If there is an insufficient quantity of raw material, the required quantity with the appropriate specifications is ordered from the vendor.

Goods Receipt

Due to the purchase order created by purchasing, the raw material is posted to the stock in quality inspection during goods receipt.

The batch is assigned a batch number.

An inspection lot is created.

Quality Management

The delivered batch of raw material is subject to quality inspection.

The inspection results are recorded, and become available to batch determination as soon as the usage decision has been recorded.

The batch is posted to either restricted or unrestricted stock.

Warehouse Management

The batch of raw material is placed into stock at storage bin level.

Production

Before production commences, an availability check is run as part of batch determination.

The production or process order is released.

A batch number is assigned to the material to be produced.

The shop floor papers (PI sheet, for example) are created.

An order-related inspection lot is created for quality inspection.

The raw materials warehouse is notified of the transport requirement for material provision.

Warehouse Management

Using the transport requirement, the batch of raw materials is provided at the correct time and date.

Production

The manufacturing process is completed, the batch of raw material is consumed.

Inventory management

The goods issue for the batch of raw material required by production is posted.

Quality Management

Inspections are conducted during the manufacturing process.

The inspection results are recorded.

A usage decision is made.

Inventory Management

The batch produced is posted to the stock in quality inspection.

An inspection lot is created.

Quality Management

The batch produced is subject to a quality inspection for final release.

The inspection results are recorded.

A usage decision is made.

Inventory Management

The batch produced is posted to unrestricted-use stock.

Sales & Distribution

During delivery, batch determination is conducted with reference to the sales order.

During batch determination, an availability check is carried out.

Using the inspection results for quality management, inspection certificates can be automatically created.

Inventory Management

The goods issue is posted.

For detailed information on batch management in Inventory Management, refer to the MM - Inventory Management documentation.

When u would like to run perticular task periodically in background then u use batch jobs. for example any periodic process.

You can define a new job in SM36 and review them SM37.

Hi

Batch jobs normally come into picture in a manufacturing industry or in a process industry. Here the product and the quantity are defined for the particular requirement. The manufacturing process, material and the equipment used is same in the above scenario. It is like repetitive manufacturing. There could be a change in the quantities based on the requirement.

Hope this clarifies.
