Normalisation in MDM

What is MDM Data Normalisation ? how it is configured and processed in MDM.....

Hi Bindi,

MDM is used as a data hub in an heterogenous landscape or for consolidation of master data from various systems in landscape.This being the scenario it is very much possible that the data formats, nomenclature and standards maintained in different systems will be differnent.Bringing together the data from various systems is a big challenge.Hence MDM normalization deals with bringing together these variants of data to a common base.

Normalization in MDM is achieved by various functionalities in Import Manager and Data Manager.

Import Manager: Converting the values , filtering , truncating, replacing, etc are the few amongst the various normalization activiities.

Data Manager : Transformations, Validations, Assignments, etc are the features to achieve normalization .

Hi,

In case of Complex landscape of Systems it is very difficult to make the standardization of data according to nomenclature with respect to all the systems. Basically Normalization makes a kind of similar Base. Like in MDM we convert and replace the values, and as well as assignments and validation to make the data with a good hold in all the Landscape. As per Jitendra said Text Normalized is use to keep the Normalize values. Logically we can say It is based on Encryption Mechanism.

Hi,

Normalization of data is nothing but Standardization,Process of reducing complex data structure to simple one by eliminating redundant key values,attributes.

In MDM Standardization is achieved using data manager by validations(check for mandatory fields),assignments(assign default values) etc.

Redundant values can be eliminated using proper data model design(use of look fields,boolean fields)

Duplicate records rae eleiminated using Matching strategy(Transformation,rules)

Hi Bindi,

Normalization is the process of converting field values into Uppercase, removing special characters etc which helps to avoid redundancy. E.g. Consider Material Master, data comes into MDM from two different systems and title for same material may be in different case in the systems i.e. System1 -> Material1 -> Title = New_Material and for system2 Title = NewMATERIAL, MDM recognize this as a different value though logically it is a same material. In such cases Normalization helps to avoid redundancy.

In Import Manager we can use Filters to Normalize data. In syndicator also we can set the destination field property to Normalize. Also we have a field type = Text Normalized which can only store Normalized values
