Does brrestore overwrite data in sapdata directory and REDO log files?

Hello experts

I am planning to perform a brrestore from the backup data performed by brbackup.

I found out that below command should be used to perform brrestore:

brrestore -m full -b xxxxxxxx.afd

What I want to know is that what should i do before executing this command.

Should I delede data in sapdata directory and also redo logs?

Or brrestore would over write the current existent data?

Thank you !

Hi Munkhzaya,

No, you don't need to do anything with the available files. BRRESTORE overwrites already existing files with the ones from the backup. It would be very odd if one should delete files before actually restoring anything. Please navigate to below page to gather more information about the Restore and Recovery driven by BR*Tools

Dear Janos

Thank you so much for quick reply.

So, I do not have to delete any files or logs before executing brrestore command.Understood.

Btw is it the same, executing restore by below step and restore by the command brrestore -m full -b filename.

1. execute brtools

2. choose "restore and recovery" ⇒ "Complete database restore" ⇒"C"

Hi Munkhzaya,

The option you specified will use a command like this "brrecover-u / -t complete -i 30 -s 20 -l E. This means it will also recover the database once brrestore finished restoring the files.

If you are new to BR*Tools, I strongly recommend to use the menu just as yoüu stated above as this will guide you through the whole process. Also if you intend to execute a Full restore and complete recovery, this is the right place for you to start. More information about BRRECOVER is available in the SAP note below:
