Select option for null values

Hi,

I have 2 specific fields in the append structure ZAMARC with the same component type => CHAR4.

I have null values for those fields.

When I search datas on MARC with SE11 I don't obtained the same result :

First field with "<>" null option = it's ok : all datas with null values are returned.

Second field with the same option : it's not ok : no datas returned.

Question : can somebody explain this difference ?

When we add a field in ZAMARC, must we use the "Utility for database tables" option to activate and adjust database for MARC ?

Thank you for your help

Jocelyne

Hi !

ZAMARC is a specific table.

Can you tell the data element used for the two fields you are considering ?

Hi Yann,

ZTYP_HA created in 2007 before migration ECC6.

ZIMP_ART created today.

Domain : CHAR04.

Thanks.

Hi Jocelyne,

I tried your scnario with different table.

Appended two fiends with Char 4. Activated the append structure and selected 'Contents' to check if I am able to make a search with NULL entries in both fields.

But when i tried adding data records with some values in both fields and then by adding values alternately in both fields. My search failed to return null values for both fields.

As to my understanding, APPEND is a different structure. Any selection (or Excluded section) on one field will be dependent on another field of the same append structure.

For instance.

If Field1 = 'NULL' and Field2 is not given any selection criteria

System will try and search all records where FIELD1='NULL' and FIELD2='SOMEDATA' because both field1 and field2 are in the same append.

Hope this explains.

Anyone else please add to this.

Thanks!
