Moving DB from one host to another

I have a plain vanilla BOBJ 4.2 SP3 installed on SQL Server. It has no objects and neither the development work has commenced. The current installation is on VM and a Centralized installation where DB, App tier and Web tier are on the same host. Now we want to move the DB over to another host which is a physical cluster.

Can you advise the recommended approach to move the database here. Could backup/restore and repointing DSN work here or is there a SAP recommended guideline for such scenario.

Regards

Kalyan

Kalyan,

Start with first creating System DSN to the Source & Destination DB on ALL the BI4 Servers. Then STOP SIA and flow steps below with screenshots

If the environment is untouched and nothing is there then you can simply change the CMS database via CCM.

You can change your default DB connection for CMS by using CCM.

1. In CCM stop the CMS Server .
2.Go to CMS Server properties.
3.Then goto Configuration tab.
4.There you can specify your new CMS datasource.
5. Follow the instructions and Choose the respective database and provide the details.
6.After all changes restart the CMS Server.

This is a blog for changing the CMS db to Hana but you can take a reference to change it to your desired database.
