Hi,
We're going to do an upgrade from 4.6D ext to ECC 6 SR3 and currently we're using an x86_64 processor thus we have no option but to use a 32 bit kernel on R3. Questions :
1 - When we do the upgrade, can we change the Kernel 7.00 to a 64 bit kernel ?
2 - Is this before or after the upgrade?
3 - Any sapnotes that I can refer to?
Many Thanks,
Hazrienne

What OS are you using?

Hi,
We're using a windows 2003 64 bit enterprise edition,it's just that the R3 kernel are supported on 64 bit thus we have no option but to use the 32 bit kernel. So in order to upgrade to ecc is :
4.6D Ext 32 bit > ECC 6 32 bit > Homo Copy > ECC 6 64 bit ?

before using 64bit Kernel your OS has to be 64bit (X64bit) kindly check you are using 65bit os or 32bit ?

You have to use ECC 6.0 SR2 media is compitable 32bit and 64bit.
Personally i advice you first do 32bit to 64bit upgradation and then do SAP upgrade.

You can do upgrade in 32 bits and then move to 64 bits in another weekend, it does not take much time to do it. This is considered as an homogeneous system copy so in the Homo system copy guide it is covered, there are few differences compared to normal system copies.

Hi,
Please check out the guide, since all the new versions require 64 bit, and only dialog instances can be installed on 32bit.
Since your OS is 32bit and even hardware is 32bit, the 64 bit kernel when you try to replace might not work since it is not designed for that...
You can give a try on similar setup before going on live ones.
Regards,
Ravi.
