Background job is not producing spool

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum........

We have a issue when running a background job, system is not producing a spool list. We are sending e-mails to users based on the background job, but since no spool is created there is not any e-mail to send. We have tried to use a DUMMY printer specified in the step, but job will only create spool if we define a real printer in the job step. Are there any other ways to achive a spool without printing, we only want to send e-mails....?
