First, let me preface my comment/question with that statement that I am an application person, not a Basis person or developer. I built a new server from the ground up with 64G RAM and installed SAP HANA express edition. I can run either hxe or hxexsa on top of VMware Workstation 12 on in a Windows 10 Pro or a Ubuntu 10.04 environment. Everything works fine except, I am unable to get to what I am most interested in, the legacy SAP applications (i.e. PS, PM, MM, PP, etc.), the Solution Manager and the Implementation Guide. From Rodrigo's comments, it sounds like this is not include in SAP Express Edition. Is this the correct conclusion?

I tried installing the SLD on a SUSE Linux,created a HEX 2 user with all the Privileges as per the instruction.
The user can't connect to create SBOCOMMON

12 Months later... any news on that topic? HXE works quite well, but is still very developer unfriendly (SLES instead of free openSUSE for example).

Anyone?

Christian - the VM we provide is on SLES, but, nothing stops you from installing your own instance on openSuse - in fact, a large amount of users use this, Ubuntu, Centos and other distributions. If we ship the VM, we do it with SLES, because we have processes internally to validate it.

I posed this question to an SAP employee that is highly qualified to answer questions about the entire B1/HANA landscape. They quickly replied "NO".

The impression I have is that it's technically feasible with enough ram (I have not bothered to try), but a violation of the B1 eula, and probably the Hana Express Edition eula as well. To keep out of the hot seat, I'd advise anyone to keep their B1 database out of HXE.

Of course, someone could change their mind about it all in 15 minutes and make it possible.

Confirming - there are EULA restrictions against running SAP business applications on HXE, as well as requirements and restrictions on the B1 side.
