Former Member

Hi there!

I am planning to implement an online backup using brtools. When I did the testing, I noticed an error that prevents me from completing the backup. Hope anybody can help me. It seems that there is an error with the compress command but I cant seem to understand why. Below is the entire log of my backup. Btw, Im using ECC6 and Oracle Database 10g.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Eric,

Before I go with the brarchive upgrade, the note says that the problem happens in Windows systems that uses a language other than English. In my case, I am using IBM AIX 5.3.0.0 and using English language. Should I still proceed with the upgrade or would you recommend another approach. Im willing to do the upgrade but I also think I need to furnish this thread with my real setup/config.

Thanks in advance

a BRTOOLS upgrade is simple to make and risks are minimal. if this does not work, you can easily go back to previous version (as long as you copied the files before overwriting them).

It might not resolve your problem, but you won<t know until you actually do the change.

good luck.

Hi there,

I have already upgraded our brtools (from BRTOOLS 7.0 (18) to BRTOOLS 7.0 (40) ) but I still encounter the same problem.

Anymore advices/recommendations?

Thanks

File size limitations perhaps?

What is the size of /oracle/E6P/sapdata1/sr3_1/sr3.data1 ?

Two things that have to be checked:

1) Your version of compress command may not work with large files.

2) Not sure about AIX, but some flavours of Unix require special file system options if large files will be used.

For a check, you could try this:

Copy /oracle/E6P/sapdata1/sr3_1/sr3.data1 to directory /installer/backup/E6P/bdzcoptc.

Then compress it there.

Does this work?

Any error messages?

hope this helps

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the insights. The size of the file is 5557460992bytes (approx 5.6GB). Im currently working on the mount options for the JS2 filesystems in UNIX. If it still doesnt work, I'll also try your suggestion. Will give feedback as soon as possible.

Thanks for the quick response.

Ok. In that case, I may no longer need to upload the log of the successful backup. Will try to update brtools and see what happens.

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Thank you for the quick reply. However, I have another thing to bring up. I created an exact replica of this instance to a separate server for my online backup testing. I used mksysb for my rootvg and created a backup of my datavg and restored it to the new server. To my surprise, my online backup worked. Im currently running it so that I can upload the log in this thread. I checked on the version of the brtools and they are both of the same level. Also, I forgot to mention that I've been using offline backup via brtools since last year. It was only now that Im trying to implement an online backup. Would this problem still be caused by brarchive patch 18?

Thanks in advance!

brtools 15 to 18 have problems with this. it may not occur under all circumstances.

so, do what the note tells you to do and update brtools now.
