Hi,
DIMP is not totally related to BASIS, this was industry specific best practices offered by SAP and related to functional aspect. As a basis consultant you have to get the add-on components related to DIMP into the SAP R/3 application and prepare the system where functional consultant can do further configuration based on business scenario.

Dear,
DIMP stands for Discrete Industries and Mill Products and is actually one of SAP's industry solutions (SAP for specific businesses). It maps business processes for the aerospace and defense, automotive, high tech, engineering construction and operations, and industrial machinery and components industries.
This info was found in SAP Info issue 119. See URL http://www.sapinfo.net/public/en/print.php4/article/Article-25854410372169d82e/en
Hope it will help you.
