What is the function of Front end type...in CJ20n

front end type here means the computer you are using to access SAP (front end) and the data carrier type - the functionality in CJ20N checks the hostname for the front end computer

usually in the ip address and network (this is a bit technical and I am not aa tech expert) the front end computer is set to DEFAULT (usually) this means that the front end is automatically determined and hence requires no further action.

If the hostname is not set to DEFAULT to your computer, only then this function would come in use - honestly I have never had the need to use this as in most cases the hostname is defaulted to the front end computer which makes this function unusable.

Your queston is obvious but in CJ20n Normally we never use this funcationality. As it is technical in nature If you want more details ask to BASIS.
