OM / PA / PD / PE, how are they performing in the market?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to SAP and HCM in particular. I am working on this project where I'm leading a PD module, with the integration with the other modules mentioned.

I was wondering how popular and marketable this modules are, since all I see is mostly about PY, TM, ESS/MSS. I know that at the end, all of them are integrated and should develop knowledge on them, at least for integration purposes.

Is it a good investment to specialize on these, or you guys recommend PY/TM more.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Ale

Hi Alejandro,

I would like to draw a perspective here...there are two things of interests

1. Opportunity to Learn

2. Opportunity to Earn

considering your situation, you say you are new to SAP...and already leading PD module..so i would assume you entered SAP..if employed..with steady income and relatively new to the field..you should be concentrating on point no.1, you said your project you have integration with all modules mentioned..

so learn as much as possible irrespective of Sub-specialising.

i would say that OM, PA are like foundation....like pillars...the more knowledge you have about it the better...although as per JOBS in this area is concerned..they form part of Implementation Projects, which are seldom found..as you will find many clients past implementation phase and in support environment or in upgrade...but still strong foundation is always needed.

coming to PY/TM..both Implementation and support in this area is needed..so consultants with these skills are always wanted..these are the skills you always want to learn.gather enhance..specialise going forward..

no matter what sub module your current role is..always strive to enhance skills in this area..if you want a long term career in SAP HR.

now coming to ESS/MSS : As some friends already mentioned this is relatively new module, and customers, who have upgraded to higher versions of SAP are now implementing this..this is relatively a hot module. And in most European and Americas...the pay scales are on par with Top notch Payroll consultants..

if you have opportunity to learn this..i would personally recommend learning this ASAP..Bringing us to Point no. 2.as it is relatively easy than payroll/time..and work on those projects as you can always return to PY/TM..well..u know "MAKE HAY WHEN THE SUN SHINES"...

Also one thing to keep in mind is...Most European and Americas look for consultant with sub specialisation skills, rather than Jack of All.. so start building skills which are in demand and then move to enhancing all skills.

Hi Alex,

Future is going to be of these modules there would be huge demand for these modules in the coming days come.

PA/OM will be base

and on that 1.ESS/MSS , 2.Talent Management suite ,3.PY/Time these would stand as pillars

if you are well versed in the one the of these 3 you can make your make your life out of it.

SAP also very much concentrating on the Talent Management Suite in the EHP its is giving more importance ot Talent Management in the recent Tech Ed also from SAP HR only Talent Management has given the due consideration there were some presentation on Talent Management Suite.

Thanks

it is not true.. SAP Help on ESS/MSS is quite exhaustive.. also, there is enough stuff right [here|; !

BTW, ESS has been around since 4.0 & MSS since 47..

Hi Ale,

PY/TM is a must for most of the organizations but ESS/MSS is an improvement and usually constitute the later parts of the SAP-HR projects.

Thus learn PY/TM in the first place.

Thanks,

I understand the importance of those modules.

And I think you are telling me that specializing in OM/PA/PD/PE isn't really a good idea, should know them as a reference and for integration.

I should just focus on PY/TM where most project lie, right?

Thanks again for your time.

Ale,

I advise you to specialize in all HR modules, if possible.

But the starting point should be PA/OM/PY/TM.

Then switch to supplementary modules like PD/PE/ESS/MSS.
