Hi Experts,

How can i create variants? When you are creating variants work bench requests will be generated> How can one transger variants from quality to production??

Hi,

A variant is a way of saving the selection parameteres that you use frequently. Example : If you use one report for 3 different extracts/ outputs, each needing a different set of selection parameters, you can save these selection criteria as 3 different variant, so that it is easy to run the report repeatitvely without having to remember the selection criteria.

To save a variant; on the selection screen of your report, enter parameters that you want to save, example co.code , year etc. Then on the menu you will find the option of variant ....GOTO---->SAVE as VARIANT. Save the variant with a name you which describes the selection.

Another helpful feature of variants is that the variant you save under your login id, can be made available to different users.

Now the next time you use this report, you do not have to remember you selection, you just click on GOTO--> GET Variant and select your saved variant. This will auto fill the selection you had saved earlier.

Variants are also used when you want to run a particular report in background mode with a specific selection. You can set you variant and then schecule the report in background using the Variant.

Variants do not create a transportable request. They need to be created seperatly in each environment..i.e. you will have to create them in Production server.

I have a doubt in variants ..

this is your Message posted on Dec 1...

While running background mode for a report and it having more than 1 variant . At that time how to schedule the variant....

did u understand my Question ... For an example first half of the month first variant to be taken & Second half of the month Second variant to be selected.

Hi,

if you want to create variants for any perticular report, Execute that report and give selection conditions in the selection screen and save the the data. it will ask you variant name and description. if you want to variants you can create directly in production.
