Error during HANA installation

While installation of HANA DB via LCM I run into some trouble:

  • Error: Loading initial content of XS Advanced Runtime
  • Error: Output line 148: [33] com.sap.xs2rt.installation.util.InstallationException: Installing the Audit-Log Service (DB) application failed: Could not update state of task auditlog-db-deploy-task: Failed to retrieve data from secure store.
  • Error: Output line 211: com.sap.xs2rt.installation.util.InstallationException: Installing the Audit-Log Service (DB) application failed: Could not update state of task auditlog-db-deploy-task: Failed to retrieve data from secure store.
  • etc.

Any idea / support why?

The log file does not provide me with enough information to explain why this installation did not succeed.

The installer logs that Installing the Audit-Log Service (DB) application failed because the app

Failed to retrieve data from secure store.

From the log, I understand that this concerns a VM installation. Is this correct? Hosted in the cloud or locally?

If local, does your VM server meets the minimum requirements, cf. https://www.sap.com/developer/tutorials/hxe-ua-getting-started-binary-xsa.html?

Server + Applications: 24 GB minimum (32 GB recommended)

Note that this requirement concerns memory allocated to the VM, not the OS (add 4GB + additional memory for running applications).

Not sufficient memory is a common cause for applications (here the Audit-Log Service) failing to start.

I have the same situation like you described. Audit-Log Sevice (DB) failure during hana cockpit update. I have 32GB server and only 17GB used now so should be enough memory here.

Hi Thomas,

I do not. In case of SAP HANA express, insufficient memory resources might trigger this type of errors. There is also a note, for example, that you get an error when you remove the unzip utility from the system (sic)

Make sure to use a supported operating system for the release

XSA and HANA are loosely coupled, so you could try to first upgrade only the database, then the runtime, and then the apps; or even remove XSA and re-install runtime with apps (assuming this concerns a development/training environment).

However, your system is for SAP HANA cockpit, correct? H4C
