Visual Composer - missing column drag & drop / column hide & unhide

Within our company the ALV feature is very popular. Within an ALV report in "classic" ABAP - as I call it nowadays - it is possible to move columns around manually, just by drag & drop. Also hiding/unhiding columns in an ALV in classic ABAP is just a matter of right mouse click and select hide or show column. Once you are satisfied with the layout, you can save it as a user or standard layout.

Web Dynpro ABAP is getting there with ALV but is missing the drag & drop and hide/unhide features. In WDA I first have to go to settings, move around columns, delete columns if I want to "hide", save it and then I see the result on screen. If I don't like it, I have to go back to settings again etc. To summarize: in my opinion it is far too much hassle to move columns around, absolutely not as userfriendly as classic ABAP (yet).

I know Visual Composer will get ALV features similar to the ALV features available in Web Dynpro ABAP as of SAP NW VC CE. I think it would be a great improvement when ALV features in both Visual Composer and Web Dynpro would be extended with the column drag & drop and the column hide/unhide without the need to go to settings to get this done.

Does somebody know if there are plans to add this to future releases of VC?

kind regards

Hi Angelique,

The ALV functionality is a part of the next release of Visual composer (Visual Composer for SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1).

Visual Composer Web Dynpro runtimes (Web Dynpro HTML and Web Dynpro Flex) are integrated with SAP List Viewer (ALV). SAP List Viewer enables users to perform data manipulation of tabular data at runtime. For example, runtime users can modify the data display; print data; save personalized settings; sort, filter, and group data; and add calculations.

Using Visual Composer Storyboard, you can specify which additional functionality runtime users are able to access, and you can also define default display settings for tables at runtime.

You are welcome to experience this feature and many others by joining the ramp-up of the next release!

Best Regards
