Hi,

Recently I need to do a database restore to comply with some SOX requirement.

The backup file for MAXDB is about 160GB, commonly, does anybody know that how much time is needed to finish this restore?

Really appreciate your help in advance!

Thanks a lot,

vivian

Hi Vivian,

the time needed to restore a backup obviously depends on the writing-speed of the harddisks used.

So, it's not possible to say how long it would 'generally' take.

Anyhow, I would not assume to take it more than 2 hours with current equipment.

regards,

Lars

BTW:

Such questions should be answered at the time when the backup-procedure is made up and verified.

Maybe for your situation it would be good to perform backup/recovery with parallel media.

Hello Lars,

Firstly thank you very much for replying my question

And I have a futher question, can I assume that the time needed by restore is approximately equals or a little more than the time spent on backup this database?

No, I wouldn't assume that.

Usuallly the storage systems you use for storing your data volumes on are much faster with reading data than with writing it.

Therefore it might take longer to actually restore data than to take the backup.

Of course this also depends on how quick the data can be read from the backup medium.
