BOXI R2 - Import Folder Rights

Former Member

Hi,

Is it possible to transfer Folder Rights using Import Wizard? All content (Reports, Universe, Folders, Category etc..) looks OK from one server to another server by Import Wizard however folder rights seem not able to transfer properly...

Are there any ways can duplicate whole set of content from one BOXI R2 server to another?

Please help, thank you.

Terry

The Import Wizard can be used to move content from one BO deployment to another. The only other option involves backing up the filestore, CMS db, deploying them to another location, pointing the input/output FRS of the the new deployment to the filestore at the new location. You will also need to point the CMS to the newly deployed CMS db.

Hi Srinivas,

If I go to the backing up filestore & CMS db approach, even the new location's server name is not the same, does it work?

I found some folders named with server name in the BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5 directory, so I'm wonder how do I handle them...

e.g. D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Data\

-BOXIAPP08

-BOXIAPP08.cacheserver

-BOXIAPP08.Desktop_IntelligenceReportServer

Then what about those seheduled jobs and personal documents? Will they goto new location as well?

Thank you for your advise, thanks.

The folders you listed are temporary data folders for the servers.

All scheduled jobs exist in the Output FRS. For the most part , other documents exist in the Input FRS.

You only need to repoint your input and output FRS.

All schedules will run fine as long as the CMS db is restored on the new machine.

BO has a document for XI R2 called Backup and Recovery best Practices. The file name is (to the extent I know) boe_backup_recovery_best_practices.pdf. This document also applies to XI 3.0 and details the process I mention.

Hi Srinivas,

I've tried to copy over the production Input/Output folders and SQL repository to my test server however the CMS can't start up somehow...

What I did:

1. Install BOXI R2 & all patches on the test server.

2. Overwrite test SQL repository by production SQL repository. (same DB name & ODBC name, we have a test SQL server as well so we can use same DB name)

3. Overwrite the test Input/Output folders by production Input/Output folders

D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\FileStore\Input\

D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\FileStore\Output\

Am I missing some steps?

Please help, thank you.

In order to migrate security, you must also migrate the users/groups along with the objects/folders.

The users/groups/objects/folders must be the same in both systems. If for instance a group was created with the same name in 2 systems then it would have a unique identifyer in each system (known as a CUID). Use the import wizard and select the update objects in destination.

If you have any issues you can open a message with the deployment team and have an engineer walk you through the import wizard options.

Hi Tim,

I've selected all of them (users/groups/objects/folders) in import wizard however there are some warnings comes up when objects are transferring to the destination. It mentioned about security issue, the rights are not able to apply properly...

I've enabled LDAP authentication for Domino, related?

any ideas? thank you~
