BOM question

Hi All,

We have a BOM for a semifinished product say S, in which there are four components sayA(qty10),B(qty 2),C(qty4),D(qty6), in which D is phantom. Now D also has two components say A(qty5) and E(qty1).

Now we can see that component A is BOM S and also in D.

So, i want to know can we remove component from A from BOM D and include component A in BOM S with qty15. If we do this what will be effect.

Please let me know.

Regards,

D.Dutta

Dear Debashish,

The main reason for defining phantom's is to identify the assembly that are logical from design point of

view.Wherein after taking MRP run the system does not create any planned orders or purchase

requistions for the phantom assemblies but it directly creates it for the components of the phantom

assembly. If you mention that component A = 15,how will you differentiate that 10 is required at the first

level for producing S and the remaining 5 is at D level?

Though it does not give any impact but how will you identify or differentiate about the split up of the

quantity of A?

Yes if you maintain at different levels then requirement dates in reservation will be different.

Dear Debasish,

I hope you must have understood the concept of Phantom assembly definition and so for these phantom

assembly you need not do confirmation and while confirming at top level the components of the

phantom's get's posted.It's not the reservation only.

Phantom 's help to identify the assembly correctly in a multilevel BOM where it does not happen exactly

in production point of view but only in Design point of view.

Hi,

If you have created the production order and after that if you are trying to remove component from BOM D (phantom), then to my knowledge it will create problems while confirmation. Order reservation on the phantom material will not be deleted.

This is because there is defferent order path and order level for phantom material BOM than normal material BOM. Also all the components of the phantom assembly has to be assigned to the same operation. Removing of component from the phantom material BOM breaks this link.

If you are trying the above scenario make sure that mixed MRP indicator in MRP 3 screen of phantom material master is 1. This will help in deleting the order reservation for phantom material.

Yes you can do that there will be no difference in doing so. The only difference is the requirement date.
