Hi Experts,
I need to enable the automatic safety sotck. Please read below:
-
Safety Stock:
In IMG -> Materials Management -> consumption Based Planning -> Master Data -> Check MRP Types (transaction code OMDQ) you use the indicator Calculate Safety Stock so that system calculates the safety stock automatically.
The safety stock can be calculated automatically for materials planned with one of the consumption-based planning procedures if:
1. The service level has been maintained in the material master record.
2. Historical data exists
3. The forecast has been carried out for the material.
-
We basically want to enable it for raw materials. Now my query is regarding the 2nd and 3rd points mentioned above. When they say historical data, does it refer to consumption data and for how long should it exist? Forecast (for raw material?), what is meant by it, please explain.
Thanks,
Sachin
hi,
The historic data refers to consumption data taken from LIS and forecast data is taken from lower level code of their assembly.

Dear,
As Consumption based planning is one type of MRP.
consumption based planning uses the past consumption data to calculate the future reqmts.
Here the net reqmts calculation is triggered when the stock level falls below reorder point.
Please refer this link for details,

Hi,
2. Historical data exists
Historical data means you need to maintain your consumption details. Once activate the Automatic re-order point planning, the system will take care of the current consumptions & it will be updated in the particular periods. Based on the consumption, the safety stock will be increased or decreased based on the consumption.
3.The forecast has been carried out for the material.
This is different MRP type. We need to maintain the forecast models, predefined forecast models were there in SAP already, based on the past consumption, system will propose future requirements.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. For the 3rd point you have said that this is a different MRP type. All this while we were using MRP type PD. Now I have made a new MRP type and called it ZD which is nothing but a replica of PD but with automatic safety stock enabled. I had to do this because PD is also being used for FGs, but auto safety stock is required only for RM.
We are using both MTO and MTS stategies. For MTS we start from MD61. Are we talking about the same forecasting in the third point?
Thanks,
Sachin
