Publish non-SAP KM Content

We want to publish content on a periodic basis to the SAP Content Mgmt repository from a third-party content server. In other words, we want to import documents directly to KM without having to manually upload each document. Is this possible within the KM framework?

There are 2 ways in ICE for data transfer between servers.

Online method and Offline Method.

Try the Online method.

If ur third party server is supported with ICE Package for Direct Server Transfer of Data

Yes, I understand that advanced and industry standard methods exist for exchanging content. We simply want to transfer files and content to the file system. With the standard CM repository, the persistence mode can be changed from the default DB to DBFS. With DBFS, the files are stored in the file system instead of database. Do you have experience with the DBFS mode? If we publish or transfer content directly to the file system (e.g. root directory = /usr/sap/DP1/documents), does KM recognize the files?

I would recommend doing the upload using WebDAV; this will work independantly of the repository manager and it's persistence mode.

WebDAV is an extension of the HTTP protocol and provides the ability to edit documents directly on the server. We don't need that capability. These are static documents that portal users will only need read access to.

WebDAV is an extension that allows writing to the server -- I thougth that's exactly what you want to do???

To do it like that, I recommend the FSDB mode instead of the DBFS.

DBFS should never be accessed through the filesystem.

And yes, KM will recognize the files you upload directly in the file system of a FSDB repository. You might, however, loose some of the standard properties.

I created a new folder directory in SAP KM and set the persistence mode to FSDB and mapped the root directory to the Linux file system location. Then, a file was moved into that location on the file system. Unfortunately, the file was not recognized in SAP KM. Any ideas why?

Well, it should.

Can you create a new file through KM?

And, anyway, I'm still not sure why you don't use WebDAV in the first place.

Thanks for the response Julian. I uploaded a file through KM also and it was not present in the root directory location. For some reason, a new file was created in another directory. Does it change the name? The file in that location appears to be renamed to 326417514529.CONTENT. The file uploaded was a pdf.

We may consider WebDAV. Can KM Links be created that call the files in the WebDAV repository?

That sounds as if you're using DBFS instead of FSDB mode.

Yes.

But my proposal was to use WebDAV to upload the files into a regular KM repository.

Hi,

if your third-party content manager supports it, you can try ICE:

[Content Exchange Repository Manager (ICE)|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/4a/d6769eea2511d5995e00508b5d5211/frameset.htm]
