Updating Custom field table LIKP

Hello Gurus!, need your help.

I've created a custom field under table LIKP, I think I need BADI LE_SHP_DELIVERY_PROC to

update it but not sure how to use it.

Can you please detail the steps on how to accomplish this?

This new field will be update outside of SAP userexits. Also, do I need to lock the delivery

before using LE_SHP_DELIVERY_PROC or is this taken care of by the BADI?
