Dear Experts,

Need you help in understanding the connectivity options we have in order to connect our On-Premise ERP systems with Cloud via SAP CPI/HCI.

I have gone through multiple blogs and articles but I am still not manage to get a clear understanding.

Listing few of my doubts below:

1. Is it mandatory to have either Web Dispatcher or SAP Cloud Connector to have a secure connection between On-premise ERP systems and CPI/HCI in order to connect to SAP/Non SAP cloud?

2. Does CPI/HCI always comes with both Data Integration and Process Integration capability or do we need to decide which one is needed based on our requirement?

3. Is CPI/HCI Data Integration same as HCI-DS? Is HCI-DS agent different from Cloud Connector?

4.

i) How can we do IDOC based outbound/Inbound communication between On-premise ERP systems and SAP Cloud Platform via CPI/HCI?

ii) Does Cloud Connector supports IDOC/proxy communication outbound from on-premise ERP systems?

iii) Can IDOC communication be done without cloud connector?

I have few more doubts which probably will get clear if discussion starts.

BR,

Shashank

Hi Shashank,

Let me try to answer few of your queries:

1. Is it mandatory to have either Web Dispatcher or SAP Cloud Connector to have a secure connection between On-premise ERP systems and CPI/HCI in order to connect to SAP/Non SAP cloud?

SAP cloud connector can be used only for inbound connections. For outbound communication you need not use SAP Cloud connector.

Yes SAP cloud connector is the recommended to have secure connection between On-premise SAP systems.

2. Does CPI/HCI always comes with both Data Integration and Process Integration capability or do we need to decide which one is needed based on our requirement?

yes CPI-Data integration and CPI - Process Integration are two separate tools and should be used based on the requirement.

3. Is CPI/HCI Data Integration same as HCI-DS? Is HCI-DS agent different from Cloud Connector?

Yes. HCI-DS agent is a separate from Cloud Connector.

4. i) How can we do IDOC based outbound/Inbound communication between On-premise ERP systems and SAP Cloud Platform via CPI/HCI?

Please find below a sample blog which you could use for getting the steps.

https://blogs.sap.com/2016/08/09/hci-hcp-is-idoc-adapter-deciphered-part-1-trigger-idoc-from-sap-to-hcc-using-basic-authentication/

Hope this answers few of your queries.

thanks and regards,

Thanks Praveen for your useful response.

My requirement is to connect On-premise ERP system with SAP C4C cloud and Oracle Cloud (eg, Unifier, FSC).

1. For C4C since we have pre-packaged content, do we have same pre-packaged content available for both tools CPI-PI and CPI-DS?

2. If we have pre-package content available do we useCPI - Process Integration and not CPI-Data integration?

3. Is SAP Cloud Connector alone sufficient to connect Cloud applications with on-premise systems or it works only in collaboration with SAP CPI?

4. Is the concept of cloud connector only applicable for CPI - Process Integration, and we have to use HCI-DS agent in case of CPI-Data integration?

BR,

Shashank

Found one useful blog that provides clarification to some basic CPI queries: https://blogs.sap.com/2017/05/22/saps-data-integration-solutions-in-the-cloud/
