I need help to move a Sybase ASE 15.0.3 database

I need to move from a windows 2003 server to a windows 2008 server.

I need some help from a consultant to move this database. I need someone who is comfortable with this migration. No upgrade in db version. This database is mostly static. Who can I contact to get assistance.

Hi Cameron,

Note that 15.0.3 is already end of life'd. You should really be running on 15.7 or 16.0.

Anyway, the most common approaches would be using :

- dump and load

- quiesce database

In either method, you would build a new server on the new platform, generate a ddl of the databases schema on the source and create the db's. Then you can either dump each of the db on the source and load them on the target, or, using the quiesce database method you would stop the activities on the source, copy the underlying devices to the target server and start the server. This is all documented in the manuals.

Once migrated, of course, consider upgrade the ASE.

If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, please get in touch with your SAP Account Manager and arrange for a SAP consultant on site.
