SAP ERP (w/out BI) and BOBJ EDGE Integration Prerequisites: What to do?

Former Member

Hello Everyone!

Good day!

I'm new to BOBJ and was wondering if anyone here is familiar with the procedures on how to integrate SAP ERP with BOBJ EDGE.

I already installed BOBJ EDGE along with the SAP Integration Kit after which executed the transports. But, all I accomplished was logging-in to BOBJ using SAP authentication. I don't know what to do next. How do I see the data coming from SAP?

I can't seem to find any reference material regarding the integration of SAP ERP with BOBJ. Is possible to use Universe Builder without BI only ECC?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you for having interest,

Nathan

Hi,

in terms of installation and configuration take a look at these blogs:

In regards to Universe builder I would suggest you look at these blogs where the OLAP Universes are being explained:

Web Intelligence and SAP BI

Web Intelligence - Delegated Search and Delegated Measures

OLAP Universe Change Management

hope this helps

Hello Ingo,

What a coincidence, I was actually using your tutorials as a guide during my installation before I posted this message. Your blog was of tremendous help! But sadly, what we intend to do is use BOBJ EDGE alone without SAP BI.

I followed parts of your blog which does not include the use of SAP BI. I installed the trial version of EDGE then installed the Integration Kit along with the transports. I ended up with logging into BOBJ using SAP authentication. After that, I had no idea what to do next.

We are not planning to use Crystal Reports or Webi since from what I understand SAP offers a bundle between its All-in-One solution and BOBJ EDGE, which is what we are trying to accomplish.

I suppose we will be utilizing the Universe Designer then view the reports in InfoView. But when we try to create a new Universe their are no options for an SAP ERP connection.

I am really hoping you could help us.

I am very thankful of you sharing your knowledge to the world!

Best Regards,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

BusinessObjects Edge is the server environment and you need a client tool in addition to do the reporting.

In regards to direct ERP access you only have the option to use Crystal Reports at this point of time.

Hello Ingo,

Before i close this thread I have one last question. Why is it not advisable to connect via ODBC for direct BOBJ-to-ERP integration? Isn't that possible?

Thanks,

Nathan

Hi Ingo,

Are there any plans to provide SAP ECC access via Pioneer ?

Thanks.

Pioneer is planned to be on top of NetWeaver BI as of now. For sure plans can change. but you can already connect via BI to the ERP stack as well
