Advantages n Disadvantages or comparision of Non-SAP and SAP portal

Hi All

I need some information on Pro & Cons of Non-SAP and SAP portal.

Various parameters that may be used for comparision could be Personalization, Search, Collaboration, Process Workflows, J2EE & SOA Portlet Development, Content Management, High Availability & Scalability etc .

Hi Vineet,

I aggree with the other ones: If you have many SAP systems, then EP might be the way to go.

But, I also heard from an EP expert, that it should be also not too difficult to intetgrate SAP systems in other portal solutions. The connectors for doing so are available.

I have one other point to consider: Do you have a (big) development department in your company? Because one "problem" for the current portal release is, that you will likely have to use the old-fashioned Eclipse 2.1 when developing portal applications. So if you have a grown development deparment with Java experts, another portal solution might be better, because current Java solutions are better supported. But this depends also on your needs of the portal itself. When you aren't planning to make any developments, this point might not interest you.

I am new to the whole SAP (NetWeaver) world. But for me as a spoilt Java developer, the SAP portal was sort of a "culture shock"

I would appreciate if you can send some more stuff containg comparison of SAP portal with other portals apart from Sharepoint. By other portals I mean portals from Oracle, WebSphere, BEA portal.

Hi Vineet ,

every non sap portal also have most of the features as sap portal.

The main focus to consider sap portal is easy integration with sap systems . you can integrate with non sap systems even.

if you have more sap systems in landscape , it will be difficult to integarate with non sap portals.

I dont think so comparison in place for other technologies with SAP, very hard to find this mate

may be you get the faq for each technologies and u need to start comparing each other
