Hello

Is it possible to remove logvolume - DISKL00x ?

We have one too many and really dont use them that much.

They do not make us any harm, but would rather have only two as before.

I found only a way to add new, no way to remove any.

The documentation says you can:

"You can delete data volumes to reduce the size of the data area.(...)The system distributes the data from the deleted data volume throughout the remaining data volumes"

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/af/90f54ecf7e4ac79fb157477db48902/content.htm

I think you need to have DB in offline or admin state to do it.

Actually data volumes can be removed also online, that works okay - has unfortunatelly impact on running SAP, so I would not recommend doing it on PROD system :)

BUT, I am asking regarding LOGVOLUMES - Log AREA (DISKL00x), not DATA Area (DISKD000x).

Ah, sorry, I need to read more carefully.

Anyway, I think SAP Note 869267 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB Log area answers your question:

How can I reduce the size of an existing log configuration?
You can reduce the size of the log configuration by means of a "Restore Data" operation with an integrated configuration change ("Recovery with Initialization").

Hi,

The only way to achive this is to perform a backup, then then initialize the database for the restore.
By doing initialize you can redefine the log area, afterwards you can restore the backup.

Best regards,
James
