Manager field not visible

Hello Experts

when en employee applying a leave request, as per Org Structucre if superior position is vacant its not diaplaying any manager field when applying a leave request in ESS. So employees unable to raise leave request's. Here my requirement is if there is no immediate superior it needs to show second level manager in the approvers list.

Kindly through some ideas.
