Hi Akhil,
PI 7.1 and CE 7.1 are complementary solutions.
Here are some quick hints:
PI 7.1
- Service-enabling tool
- Focused on system to system integration (EAI)
- Provides and Consumes web services for integration scenarios

CE 7.1
- Composition tool
- Whole development environment and infrastructure
- Service consumprion tools (Web Dynpro, Visual Composer, BPM)
- Cal also provide web services (when you need to implement business logic in java) using CAF
- [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/index.htm]
The Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) can run over both environments (PI or CE).
Hope this helps,
Cezar

Hi,
CE7.1
SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment is a platform that enables building and running applications based on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles. It offers a set of capabilities for integrating new and existing services u2013 both by SAP and proprietary, into business-specific solutions. You can develop portable standard-compliant applications based on the latest Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5 technologies and integrate them with existing SAP and third-party solutions using a central enterprise service registry. SAP NetWeaver CE increases development productivity by providing model-driven composition tools for creating services and user interfaces and orchestrating them into collaborative user-centric workflows.
PI 7.1
SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) forms the basis for the integration of business processes.
SAP XI provides a technical infrastructure for XML-based message exchange to enable the integration of SAP systems with each other on the one hand, and SAP and non-SAP systems on the other.
In SAP XI, integration knowledge is shipped in the form of pre-defined integration scenarios. Furthermore, SAP XI provides a set of integrated tools for creating and managing all integration-relevant information.
