Hello

I have loaded MaxDB 7.6.05.09 and DBMGUI 7.6.00.37 (148140) on Windows Server 2003 SP2.

When I try a created a database instance with the DBMGUI I get the following error:

    Hello

I went into Terminal Services / Server Settings and uninstalled Application Server and Terminal Server.

    Reboot.

    load_systab now executes successfully.

This also fixes the problem as I can create a database instance using the DBMGUI and accepting all the defaults which include auto_extend.

This may also relate to as SUNFLOWER and HOLLY were the two servers that gave problems both had Terminal Server installed.

Thank-you all for the time and effort spent in solving these problems.

      Hi Bradley,

Terminal Server... that's the kind of information that I had hoped you would give us when I asked if there's anything special about the Windows installation on SUNFLOWER...

Anyway, we found the problem. If you're interested, you can monitor the progress in fixing the issue [here|http://maxdb.sap.com/webpts?wptsdetail=yes&ErrorType=0&ErrorID=1159683].

Thank you too for working with us so well (except that little detail :-).

      Regards,

      Marc-Philip

    Bradley,

    long time no see 😊

Suppose you logged on to Windows as user X when you started DBMGUI.

    Please try

    #echo %COMSPEC%

from the command line as the same user X. What is the output?

    Please try

    #dbmcli -d P01 -u dbm,* load_systab

from the command line as the same user X. What is the output?

    Please try

    "C:\Program Files\sdb\7605\bin\x_python" "C:\Program Files\sdb\7605\env\lsystab.py" -R "C:\Program Files\sdb\7605" -d P01 -u DBA,* en ENG 1>\pyout1.txt 2>&1

from the command line as the same user X. What is the output?

    Please try

    "C:\Program Files\sdb\7605\bin\x_python" "C:\Program Files\sdb\7605\env\lsystab.py" -R "C:\Program Files\sdb\7605" -d P01 -u DBA,* en ENG 1>%TMP%\pyout2.txt 2>&1

from the command line as the same user X. What is the output?

    Please try

      Bradley,

      only

      #dbmcli -d P01 -u dbm,* -n localhost load_systab

makes MaxDB use remote communication. When using this the dbmsrv.exe runs as SYSTEM . With other values for the -n option, is runs as your screen user accout.

You might want to check this in task manager. This is easier when you use the DBM server in session mode:

      #dbmcli -d P01 -u dbm,* -n localhost
      #dbmcli on localhost : P01>load_systab

      resp.

      #dbmcli -d P01 -u dbm,*
      #dbmcli on P01>load_systab

You can find out xou dbmsrv process with the command dbm_getpid. Check in task manager after starting the session with the first of the two commands.

The environment for the DBM Server must differ depending on running it as SYSTEM or as your screen user. Comparing the set of environment variables did not help me so far...

      Regards,

      Marc-Philip

    Hello

Yes, you are correct, #dbmcli -d P01 -u dbm,* -n localhost runs as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.

#dbmcli -d P01 -u dbm,* runs as SWEIDAN\admin which is the screen user.

The only user environment variables set for SWEIDAN\admin are TMP and TEMP.

      Bradley,

What are the values of TMP and TEMP for SWEIDAN\admin?

      Do these directories exist?

What is SWEIDAN? Aren't we on SUNFLOWER?

Is SWEIDAN\admin an administrator on SUNFLOWER?

      Bradley,

that error is very unexpected. What have you done to your database (resp. installation) between the previous tests and today's? The SYSDBA shouild be known. Could you just try to create a new database from your DBMGUI (using local communication of course; create in on host "<Local>")?

      Regards,

      Marc-Philip

    Hello

I restored a different database backup on 2008/11/04 at 02:25:04 PM. The previous test was run on 2008/11/05. Apart from that I have not done anything.

Here is the output from the DBMGUI create instance, logged on as SUNFLOWER\Administrator. Connect to <Local> host. Custom, use all defaults except auto_extend. Use the same software installation (C:\Program Files\sdb\7605) with the test dbmsrv.exe as database P01.

      Bradley,

perfect. Now please perform the following both as SUNFLOWER\Administrator and SWEIDAN\admin:

      dbmcli -d MAXDB5 -u dbm,* load_systab

      dbmcli -d MAXDB5 -u DBADMIN,dbadmin load_systab

That makes 4 calls altogether. What is the output?

      Regards,

      Marc-Philip

    Hello

    Neither file exists.

    C:\Documents and Settings\admin
    #dir C:\Documents and Settings\admin\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
The system cannot find the path specified.

    C:\Documents and Settings\admin

      Bradley,

now we know that something is strange with your environment variable %SYSTEMROOT%. It refers to the directory where Windows is installed. Many other environment variables depend on it.

The value of %SYSTEMROOT% for SUNFLOWER\Administrator and SWEIDAN\admin is C:\Windows. This is corrent in the sense that this directory exists and the Windows installation on SUNFLOWER is in fact in in this directory.

What is going on on SUNFLOWER? Is it a plain Windows installation or is there anything special? I believe you once wrote it's a domain controller. Anything else that comes to your mind? Is it part of a cluster? Did you make experiments with more than one Windows installation in the same machine (with different %SYSTEMROOT% values?

[Here|https://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=TRPHUUQZYOLOJMZTOPZ6S45LV7MDMBCGMKA33440YH9AXEVE3F]'s another dbmsrv.exe. Please put it in place and perform the 4 calls again that I asked for today at 2:02 PM (my time, same in you place?). Please provide the output.

      Regards,

      Marc-Philip

    Hello Bradley,

I want to answer this time for Marc-Philip.

For some reason the Windows function SHGetFolderPath( ) returns a strange value on your system. This function finds it's values usually in

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder

    or

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

    or

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder

    or

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folder

Anyway, there is (usually) no value for the Systemroot.

As far as I know the Systemroot is found in

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Systemroot

    or

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Systemroot

Could you please check these registry value?

    Regards,

    Christoph Bautz
