Search for Material - TREX/Enterprise Search

Hello experts,

Retrieval of a specific material # in SAP can be uneasy when the master data is unfortunately populated in different fields.

Example: A mechanic is looking for a specific material # with its manufacturer #:22-564-ABC.

Due to historical reason, this data can be found in different fields either in the material master or in BOM structures fields.

A total of about 10 fields could have been used to store this data.

We are implementing a master data project to clean this data but this effort can last many years.

So we need to improve the standard SAP search functionnality because we are wasting too much time.

What do you suggest me to look for: TREX, Enterprise Search, other?

I have never used the TREX search function.. But here is some SAP Help

Have you considered creating a new search-help ? These search-helps can run a custom-built function module to search for the materials. Talk to your ABAP team, they should be able to help.
