There is nothing like a "step-by-step" setup for a cluster and/or DR configuration. Those configurations are different for each installation (e. g. shared/non-shared disks, cluster product used etc.).

you didn´t even specify what database you use.

I suggest: Get you hardware vendor together with a database specialist and set up an environment.

I asked if you want to do the switch over in case of a disaster manually or if you want to use software to do that (such as a cluster).

Ok.

In that case you can make a system copy on the second machine, and write a small script that will take the archive logs and apply them to the database.

You can check for documentation e. g. at

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/toc.htm

Hi according to log details which you paste

oracle no needed recovery its saying that means, database can open and ready to use for the lastest level upto which you applied archive logs.

You are doing right only, for your conformation you please try to activate the standby db to primary. Onceagin u have restore for standby (DR)
