Hello,

I looked in the help file and user guide, but could not find any info on the XML option. What does it do? It is not enabled on my menu. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Amr,

Thank you so much for the link.

I have not used XML, but based on what I read in the document to pointed me to, it seems like XML is a tool that lets one define how the data is coming in.

I had not idea that a dashboard could actually be set up to refresh data from a database through Excel. I think that is cool. When I was seaching for info on the XML Map menu option, I looked for a sample file but did not see oe, nor did I find the pdf that you pointed me to, so I've come to the conclusion that my search skills leave something to be desired. LOL

The article did reference a tutorial for Excel, which I will find.

The pdf file mentions Xcelsius Enterprise XE. Is that another version of Xcelsius or can this be done in the professional 4.5 version?

I can't thank you enough.

hi tracy

i think yes you can do it with 4.5 as you still have the XML data button there

the main idea of creating dashboards using Xcelsius is to get the data from the Excel sheet, but there is many ways to get the live data into the excel sheet and use it in ur dashboard.

on of those ways is the XML Map options.

you handle all of that through the Xcelsius, you add XML data button, and configure it by adding the link which will return the XML format, and map this XML Map to a range of you Excel sheet,

then you can use this data range to present it in your dashboard.

if you had any troubles, you can just drop me an Email and i hope i will be in help sending you some examples or whatever.

good luck

Hi Amr,

Through my travels, I found out that the replace data selection dialog box with the export settings dialog box optionswill bring in new data from a different spreadsheet to the dashboard. That may resolve my question.

I still want to learn about XML.

Thank you for the offer. I will let you know if I can't figure all of this out.

I'm re-opening this thread in case I have more questions.

Thank you so much.

I would really, greatly appreciate it if someone could help me. I'm using Crystal Xcelsius Professional 4.5 and i'm having problems with XML map options. IT IS DISABLED! So what ends up happening is that the flash graph doesn't refresh when i refresh the xml file that resides in the webserver. All files are in the webserver ie (.swf, .xls and .xml files). The weird thing is that when i make a copy of the .swf to my pc and open it with IE, it's working but for some reason when i open an .html file that embeds the .swf on the webserver, my graph is blank with no data. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! Thanks in advance. One more thing, i use to have Xcelsius designer and everything is well, now i'm using a more updated version, nothing works...

Hi Tracy - How did this work for you? I'm not sure if this is what i'm looking for. I want the dashboard (.swf) to refresh whenever the excel values changes. Does this functionality do that? I'm using designer 4.5 in my previous company and everything is working fine with my XML. In my new company we have pro 4.5 version which is really a pain because BO disabled the XML map options functionality. Now i'm stuck in refreshing my data.

I am closing this for now because I have other more important topics to learn about. I will come back to this topic at a later date. Thank you.

Hi Tracy,

Just FYI, the XML Map and all other data connectivity options are not available in the Professional and Standard versions. If you want to learn more about XML Maps in Excel here is a link to a Microsoft article on the subject:
