What is your role in the company? Are you in the position to make it fast?

If you are an enduser then it is probably the best thing you could do to open a ticket in your company to let the support team know that you are not satisfied with the performance.

Are you a basis administrator who can buy additional hardware components, processors or even evaluate a migration to a HANA database?

Are you a consultant for MM, who can evaluate this purchase order and consult the buyers how to do better?

Of course it takes much longer to open a PO with 1000 items than a PO with just 1 item. Imagine you are at a railroad crossing with your car, if there is a train with just 1 wagon the barrier opens in seconds after the train has past, but with a 1000 wagons you may stay for an hour until the last wagon has past the road.

And it may even take more time to open the PO once you have history like goods receipts and invoice receipts for the items.

A MM consultant could look into this matter and interview the enduser whether it is really needed to put so many items into a single purchase order. I already wonder how long this takes for a user to create such PO. He can find out if this PO was created at a time or over a long period. I mean here in particular that some buyer think they only create a single PO per vendor and then just add new items during the next months and years, whenever something is needed from this vendor. Also he could find out if there are huge quantities per items and finally they are received in small partial deliveries over many months and years. In such cases could the aggregation of PO history (ME87) bring some relief.

Of course the MM consultant can search for OSS notes with the search term purchase order performance or ME22N performance.

He can check for user exits in the PO processing which may have a bad effect on the performance.

He can contact the basis admin to run a performance trace.

Hi,

In addition to the points shared by Jurgen, refer the suggestions from SAP mentioned in the note:1942976 Performance issue when using transactions ME21N, ME22N, ME23N

Regards,

Prasoon
