Raspberry Pi 3 compatibility with Streaming Lite/ Smart Data Streaming

I am looking to experiment with a real world IoT concept by following the instructions on this blog written by Robert.

Link: https://blogs.sap.com/2016/02/01/learning-how-to-use-streaming-lite-with-hana-smart-data-streaming/

A couple of clarifications requested with respect to the hardware:

1. As highlighted below, Raspberry Pi 2 was used in the experiment with SP10.

2. The official documentation also states that the following requirements are needed for Streaming Lite to be successfully installed on the edge device.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(i). I wanted to check if Raspberry Pi 3 can be made use of for implementing the same exercise with Streaming Lite, Smart Data Streaming on SP12?

(ii). Do you see any potential roadblocks with respect to the compatibility (hardware/software) in this regard?

(iii). I was hoping to buy this device (Link above - Raspberry Pi 3, Model B) I am not sure what model B means, but I was just looking to get a confirmation whether this would be a good fit to test SDS, Streaming Lite on it?

Kindly advise.

Ok, we have been able to do some basic testing on a Pi3 and are not seeing any problems. Can you provide more detail on the exact steps you used in trying to run the project?

That's great news indeed, Robert. Thank you for dropping the note.

I was hoping to get a confirmation from you about Raspberry Pi 3 compatibility with Streaming Lite.

Well, we are yet to officially start working on the Streaming Lite platform but intend to start immediately. I also intend to follow the Streaming Lite tutorial you had posted (which includes several steps). Really hope that I would be able to make an end-to-end POC like the one you had highlighted in your blog series.

Question:

Does one need to install Ubuntu on the Raspberry Pi before Streaming Lite installation is done?

It would be great to know if Streaming Lite specifically requires a platform like Ubuntu Mate (similar) for it to run? Or, would we be in good shape if we directly install Streaming Lite on Raspbian itself?

Please let me know your views.

We tested with Raspbian. Note that we have not yet done a full set of QA tests on the current Raspbian version.

We are currently hearing of some issues with newer versions of Raspbian and particularly with Raspberry Pi 3. We have a roadmap item to support Raspberry Pi 3 and newer versions of Raspbian but we do not have a firm timeline for that support to be ready.

With regards to Raspberry Pi A models vs B models, the B models are generally more powerful in terms of memory, etc. than the A models.
