As per the settings of controlling area, if only one company code is linked to controlling area - co code field in cost center will be defaulted eventhough mandatory and will not be displayed.

All cost centers are defined at Company code level and controlling area level

If more than one company code is linked in controlling area, co code field will become automatically mandatory and will be available for entry.

    Hope this helps u
