HANA Backups For B1A

Hi,

I currently have a customer using B1A. I want to know if there a way RSP can handle backups for the HANA databases? I do understand for RSP backups for HANA, you need backup service installed which is part of B1H. Is it possible to install backup services for B1A?

If the above is not possible, can you advise how a script can be used to do an instance backup and automaticity clean up the previous instance backup when the new backup is completed. I will give you an example. Below in this dialog for RSP you can schedule a daily backup. Note how there is a check box that say “Delete Older Backups After Successful Instance Backup”. This would be the task I would like to achieve with a script if RSP can’t be used for B1A as well make a new instance backup.

Regards,

William

Hi William,

In case of B1A installation, only analytical content is replicate to SAP HANA Database instance and backup is not required for this content, option is not available as there is no business requirement under B1A setup. In case of any crash or data loss at SAP HANA Database Instance, you may simply re-initialize company and data would be replicated again. Please make sure that you have proper backup policy implemented for company databases on MSSQL server.

Additionally, you may refer to SAP Note: 1651055 for script to schedule instance backups.

Please note: the script from mentioned SAP Note is only intended to demonstrate how backup control could be implemented. The responsibility to implement a backup solution appropriately lies with the implementation team.

Hi Sagar,

Thanks for sharing the note. This should have the information on what i'm trying to archive. The reason for the instance backup script is to ensure the HANA Backup logs does not get out of control as I now the system backups will clean up the backup log files. I will review this note to work out the details to write this script.

Regards,

William
