Hello Manu,

Data can be uploaded directly into SRM-MDM Repository from Database and centrally managed but In case of CCM, All data is in SRM and ERP System and can not be managed Centrally.

Images can be added in Catalog Database easily by MDM Data Manager.

Content Cleansing and deduplicating Items with Rules can be done but not possible in case of CCM.

Various features of Workflow such as Approval, Email Notification, conditional initiation etc. are present with a flexible User Interface but not present for CCM.

In case of SRM-MDM Catalog:

Complete upload Process of 10000 items / 50 Categories / 200 Attributes/ 5 Views of 2000 items each takes 7 minutes but In case of CCM, It takes 162 minutes.

In SRM-MDM Catalog: (What is better than CCM?)

- Upload and data collection process.

- Content check and Mapping features (OCI).

- Matching and Merging of records.

- Approval workflow.

- Runtime content publication to search engine.

- Search experience and Overall performance.

- Manage Catalog Data as Master Data.

You can also refer the link regarding MDM catalog mentioned below :

I hope this will clear your doubts.

The main different is - if you use MDM you can use the same master date in SRM and ERP (or other non SAP system). But if you use CCM you have only text in SRM. Besides in 2010 SAP will stop the support of CCM.

Hi Marina,

I must correct your response - SAP will support SAP CCM 2.0 until end of December 2013, not 2010.

Also - CCM also contains the functionality for product master data exchange using XI transfer, using report BBP_CCM_TRANSFER_CATALOG one can select a material hierarchy and set of categories which should be transferred to the CCM application. These materials are normally replicated from a connected ERP system so you have the complete loop, ERP -> SRM -> CCM. If in catalog customizing you select the 'Do not check product' checkbox, the material being transferred is not verified in SRM but in ERP directly.

SRM-MDM is the newest catalog offering from mySAP SRM which offers extended functionalities not available in SAP CCM. New installations or upgraded systems should consider the use of SAP SRM-MDM rather than CCM due to the fact primarily that CCM is now only in maintenance and no additional functionality will be added to the application whicle SRM-MDM continues to expand it functional capacity and is more open to 'changes' to the standard system response.
