partial consumption of a material in an order

this is an issue that has stumped me for a while:

Material A is purchased in pieces and maintained in pieces - and is 5 meters long and always issued as 1 piece (5 meters long)

2 orders consume the a single piece of material (order 1: 3m and order 2: 2m - can also be order 1: 1.7m and order 2: 3.3m). regardless of the situation, material A has left overs when issued to a single order.

I want to track this partial consumption of material A per order. what i did as a work around is just carry the cost to the first order, even if it takes 2 orders to consume 1 piece (since it ultimately reflects in the cost center anyway)

is there a work around for this? our MM guy (and myself) don't really see a logical way of handling this.

Thank you!

you said the material is issued in pieces only ,then how can be consumed for 2 order .are you issuing to cost center directly ,then also while reserving the material i think you can only reserve in pieces only

    can you explain in detail

the thing is, warehouse still sends 5m (1 piece) per issuance. I believe that regardless of if each order requires 0.1m or 4.9m, warehouse still issues 5m.

so two orders with an aggregate amount of 5m (1.7m + 3.3m or 4.5m + 0.5m) will receive 1pc of material A per order.

i just carry the consumption on the first order and leave the second one, blank in the component fields 😊
