Installation stops at phase 17, with errors :

As daniel said,
If any error occurs at import ABAP or data load phases it is better to start the installation from a new folder/Directory.

Did you get any interruption in the middle of installtion .If its the case then start a fresh installtion instead of stumbling on the same problem .Also Check the available memory and installed oracle database patch .

Check below logfile for errors.
sapinst.log
SAPAPPL1.log
SAPSSEXC.log
SAPAPPL2.log
Check that your database is running and cunnection to your database is possible with command
r3trans -d
After resolving the error restart the installation.

Wat are the product your are installating. And can you please give me the sapinst log - last few lines..
according to your error, can you check in your default profile wat saphostname and global name parameter set in that profile.
