Linking OLE Excel charts with data in a report

I want to create an x-y scatter chart of a type that cannot be done using the built-in Crystal Reports charting tool (I need to plot more than one series). I'm able to created the chart in Excel and add it to my report using OLE. However, how do I link the Excel chart so it reflects the data in the report. The report data is returned from an Oracle database and will change each time the report is run.

If this is not possible with Excel can you recommend a dedicated charting tool that I can use instead.

Many thanks,

    Hi Colin

You can link the excel file with Crystal Reports following the below steps:

    - Open Crystal Reports.

    - Go to Insert > OLE Object.

    - Select "Create from file" instead of "Create New".

    - Browse the file location and then check the "Link" option.

    - Click"OK".

After following the steps you will observe the changes made in the excel chart in Crystal Reports.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry, I didn't really make it clear what the problem was. I'm okay with linking the Crystal report with the Excel chart so that changes in the chart can be seen in the Crystal report. What I haven't worked out is how to link the other way around so that the data in the Excel spreadsheet reflects the data returned in the details section of the Crystal report. What I'm trying to achieve is to create a chart that plots the data in the details section using a charting function that isn't available in the built-in Crystal Reports charting tool.
