formula you are looking for is

No.of Workprocesses depends on RAM Size.plz see the below formula for WPu2019s

No.of Dialog WPs=RAM Size(MB)/250.

No.of Background Wps=RAM Size(MB)/750.

you can also determine if your dialog processes are enough for your daily use by analyzing transaction SM50. If you open SM50 and press on the CPU button (CTRL + Shift + F6), the CPU time utilization values for each WP are displayed:

- if all are way above 0:00:00, you'll probably need more dialog WP to be configured

Or, you want to configure enough dialog WPs so that the last one (highest number) is barely being used at all (at or very near 0:00:00).

yes, Matt is right...

or, just out of curiosity, that value is 0:00:03 on iSeries systems

I also want to do the same, to increase the number of work process of our application. Is there an official SAP document listing all the parameters that should be considered when increasing the number of work process? I tried searching SAP support portal but I can't seem to find one.

Dear John,

The Memory Management SAP help document is good enough.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/02/96253c538111d1891b0000e8322f96/frameset.htm

If you go through this, you will get an idea what all you have to take care while changing these parameters.

Jazz

Hello,

That depends on the no of users that are going to logon.

For windows based operating system, it depends on the no of processors you have in the server.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/02/962817538111d1891b0000e8322f96/frameset.htm

While increasing the no of work process, you need to note that per work process, you have to assign 50 MB to 60 MB of memory, depending on the SAP release and operating system.

Dears, thanks for your reply.

My OS is windows server 2003, and we have 4 CPU processors. And we will have 226 users license to use.In the SAP library, it said if the windows server have 2 processors, then the number of work process will be 10-13. For 4 processors, the work process will be 20-25. If in this case, we will set the work process according to the server processors and ignore how many users we use?

If my assume is correct or not?

yes, please set up the @20-22 WPs (example: 12 DIA, 3 BTC, 1 ENQ, 2 SPO, 2 UPD, 1 UPD2) and also setup operation mode (RZ04) setup more DIA workprocess during day and more BTC at night time.

Cheers,

Dears, thanks for your reply again.

There is 8G Ram in my server.

So how much dialog process will take from the Ram?

Hi,

Generally per dialog workprocess it occupies RAM/256.

Hi,

By default you will be having 7 Dialog process while installation. If you are having excess users then increase Dialog's to 14 that will be sufficient.

Go to RZ10 and increase Dialog's to 14 then restart the server once then it will be effected permanently.

Go to MMC there u can see the increased Dialog's (or) you can see at SAP level t-code: SM50.
